Highlights of the Tour

Experience the best of South India on this 23-day journey, exploring historical sites, magnificent temples, lush wildlife sanctuaries, scenic backwaters, and pristine beaches. From the vibrant city life of Bangalore and Mysore to the UNESCO heritage of Hampi, the cultural richness of Tamil Nadu’s temples, the serene wildlife of Periyar, and the tranquil Kerala backwaters ending at the sun-kissed beaches of Kovalam, this tour combines heritage, culture, nature, and leisure in one unforgettable adventure.

Itinerary

On arrival transfer to the Hotel to relax. Later in the afternoon visit Lal Bagh- 240 acres of beautifully sculpted gardens, flowers abound, rare collection of tropical and sub-tropical plants. Glass House (built on the lines of London's Crystal Palace) covers 18000sq feet, Vidhana Soudha - built in 1954 in granite, this massive building houses the state Legislature and the Secretariat. Bull Temple-Dravidian-style temple, has a huge monolithic Bull is the vahana of Lord Shiva. Tipu’s summer Palace, and shopping at arts & Crafts Centre Emporium at M.G.Road.  Overnight at Bangalore.

After breakfast drive to Hospet. (Gateway to Hampi) en route stop at Chitradurga Fort. Reach Hospet by later afternoon or evening and check into the hotel.  Relax and prepare for Hampi exploration. Overnight stay in Hospet. 

After breakfast set out on a full day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi: Explore Virupaksha Temple, Vittala Temple & Stone Chariot, Hazara Rama Temple, Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, Queen’s Bath, Explore Hampi Bazaar and after a nice Sunset view from Hemakuta Hill or Matanga Hill, return to Hospet for night stay.  The magnificent ruined city of Hampi, comes alive during the lively festival of dance and music, held in the first week of November. 

After breakfast drive for Hassan. Check into the hotel.  Rest of the time at leisure. Overnight at the hotel. 

Morning visit to: Belur – Chennakeshava Temple (intricate Hoysala architecture)

Halebidu – Hoysaleshwara Temple. Proceed to Mysore in the afternoon. If the time permits visit famous Shravanabelagola a Jain Pilgrim centre and has a 17m high monolith statue of Jain Sage Gomateswara.  Check into hotel. 

After breakfast excursion to Somnathpur, visit the stunning Keshava Temple renowned for its intricate Hoysala architecture and detailed sculptures. Return to Mysore and visit the stunning Mysore Palace, known for its Indo-Saracenic architecture. St. Philomena's Church, which is one of the largest churches in India, famous for its neo-gothic architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows. Visit Brindavan gardens, These Gardens have been designed by seeking inspiration from Shalimar Gardens of Kashmir, comprising of a wide array of fountains, terraces, water channels, parterres, lawns and flowerbeds, etc. Return to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel. 

Early morning visit Chamundi Hill to see Chamundeshwari Temple. Enjoy the panoramic views of the city from the top after that visit Nandi Bull statue, located near the Chamundi Temple, an impressive sight. Return to hotel and spend some free time till check out. Check out and drop at station to board train Shatabdi express at 1415hrs to Chennai. Arrive Chennai by 2200hrs and transfer to the hotel. 

After breakfast check out and proceed for a quick city tour, covering Fort St George and the St Mary’s Church. Also visit the San Thome Cathedral and the Mylapore Shiva Temple. Later drive to Mahabalipuram en route visiting terrific & marvellous temples at Kanchipuram, also called the golden city of thousand temples. Major temples to see at Kanchipuram are Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Kamakshi Amman Temple, Vaikuntha Perumal Temple, Kailashanathar Temple, Ekambareshwar Temple, etc, apart from its temples, this small town is also known for its thriving hand loom industry and also known as Silk City. Continue drive to Mahablipuram and check into the hotel Rest of the time at leisure. Overnight at the hotel. 

Visit the Shore Temple: A UNESCO World Heritage site with stunning views of the Bay of Bengal. Explore the Pancha Rathas (Five Rathas): A set of monolithic rock-cut temples dedicated to the Pandavas. Visit the Arjuna's Penance: A massive rock relief that depicts scenes from the Mahabharata. Explore the Mahabalipuram Beach: Take a stroll along the beach, relax, or enjoy the coastal ambiance.

After breakfast, drive to Pondicherry and settle into your accommodation. P.M. visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram: Explore the peaceful ashram and its surrounding gardens. Visit Auroville: An international community with an emphasis on sustainable living and spiritual practices, head to the Matrimandir, the central structure of Auroville (note that you need prior permission to enter the inner chamber, but the gardens are beautiful to explore). Stroll around the Auroville community, visiting shops and cafes.  Pondicherry Museum – which houses a unique collection of sculptures and the remains of archaeological findings from the Arikamedu Roman settlement.  Walk around the French Quarter: Admire the colonial architecture with its colourful streets and quaint cafes. Overnight at the hotel. 

After breakfast drive to Thanjavur via Chidambaram - one of the most ancient and most celebrated of shrines in India. on arrival check into the hotel, Visit famous Brihadeeswara Temple – the foremost among the Great Living Chola temples. This city is also known for Tanjore Painting, a unique painting style. Other attractions in this city include the Royal Palace Complex, Shivganga Tank, Rajarajan Mani Mandapam, Rajarajan Museum, Mariamman Temple, etc. Overnight at the hotel. 

After breakfast excursion to Trichy. Visit the magnificent citadel – Rockfort. It houses many architectural structures such as Thayumanavar Temple, Ganesa Temple and Siva Temple. Other attractions include Teppakulam Tank, Ranganathaswamy Temple, Nadirshah Mosque, etc. Overnight at hotel. 

After breakfast drive to Madurai. Check into the hotel. P.M. enjoy the city tour of Madurai covering St. Mary’s Cathedral, a 20th century neo-Gothic construction, which is an architectural delight. Meenakshi Amman Temple, said to have been built in 6th century BC. Among the most revered temples in India, after paying homage, proceed to Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple, a rock cut temple which is believed to have been built by the Pandyas during the 6th century. Next up, visit Thirumalai Nayak Palace, the regal palace of the Nayaks of Madurai which will give you a deeper understanding of the local history. If time permits visit Gandhi Museum and Alagar Kovil. In the evening attend Aarati ceremonies (prayers) held at the Meenakshi Temple. Sound and Light Shows are also organized at the premise of the temple complex.  Overnight at hotel. 

Have your breakfast at the morning. Continue the journey to Thekkady. It is the famous wild life sanctuary of South India. On arrival Check-in at the hotel. Periyar wild life sanctuary is the home of wild elephant, boar, deer, and more. In evening go to the lake from boat to watch wild animals.  Overnight at hotel. 

After taking hearty breakfast, go to see the amazing type of plants and animals. After that visit for species plantation like cardamom, cinnamon, pepper, coffee, tea estates etc. Return back to the hotel, local market is on the way. Take a visit of local market. Here can buy some perfume species.   Overnight at hotel. 

Post breakfast drive to Cochin. P.M. visit fort Cochin, the Jewish Synagogue - built in 1568 AD contains Grand Scrolls of the Old Testament and the copper plates containing the privileges granted to the Jews by the Cochin rulers. The floor of the synagogue is paved with exquisite Chinese hand painted tiles. The Dutch Palace was built by the Portuguese and presented to the Cochin Raja in 1555 AD. 17th century murals depicting scenes from the Indian epic, the Ramayana can be seen here. St Francis Church, built originally by the Portuguese in 1510 AD is believed to be the first church built by Europeans in India. Vasco da Gama was originally buried here. The Chinese fishing nets can be seen at the entrance of the harbour. The Chinese through trade contact taught this technique of catching fish. Overnight at hotel. 

Day at leisure – or shopping in Fort Kochi Boutiques, Spice Market, MG Road and Broadway market, Lulu Mall. 

After breakfast transfer to Alleppy, which is popularly known as the Venice of east.  The place having large number of inland canals. Board the house boat.  

Kettuvallom or Houseboats (Rice boats) are traditional houseboats from Kerala, originally used to transport rice and spices through the backwaters. Made with coir ropes and wooden planks (without a single nail), these boats are marvels of eco-friendly craftsmanship. Today, they are luxuriously converted into floating cottages, offering serene cruises through the scenic waterways of Alleppey and Kumarakom.

The house boats have fully furnished single and double rooms with sundeck, comfortable chairs, kitchen and toilet with WC. In addition, there is also separate rest room for the crew. The crew includes a chef and two assistant and the Traditional Kerala cuisine will be served on the board.   Over Night on board. 

After Breakfast, checkout and directly check in to the backwater resort.  Kumarakom a water Village. Hidden among the palm trees on the eastern shore of Lake Vembanad, at the mouth of the Kavanar River, The Nature is set on an abandoned coconut plantation in the very heart of these fascinating backwaters and has been designed to give visitors an authentic insight into Kutanad life.  Most of the places can only be reached by boat – a ferry leaves from one of several mainland embarkation points at scheduled times throughout the day. Kovalam is an internationally renowned beach with three adjacent crescent beaches. It has been a favourite haunt of tourists, especially Europeans, since the 1930s.A massive rocky promontory on the beach has created a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing.

The leisure options at this beach are plenty and diverse-sunbathing, swimming, herbal body toning massages, special cultural programmers, Catamaran cruising etc. The tropical sun acts so fast that one can see the faint blush of coppery tan on the skin in a matter of minute. - Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at your hotel. 

Morning, stroll down the beautiful beaches of Kovalam followed by journey to Cape Camorin.  Visit Vivekananda Rock & Ashram, Amman Devi Temple and to see the 3 Seas meet over here (Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean & Arabian Sea) Sun Set from here is very scenic. Drive back to Kovalam in the evening. Overnight at your hotel.
